Fagor Ederlan Group drives growth in North America with the opening of Fagor Recycling in Pennsylvania

Fagor Ederlan Group continues to strengthen its position in the field of the circular economy and recycled aluminum with the launch of Fagor Recycling, a new company established together with its strategic partner Lorne Kalisky, through which the Basque cooperative group holds a 51% stake. The official inauguration of the facilities will take place on October 26 in Blossburg, Pennsylvania.

This new investment represents another step in Fagor Ederlan’s industrial expansion strategy in North America and complements the activities carried out by Fagor Regen Aluminum, whose incorporation into the group in 2025 marked Fagor Ederlan’s entry into the secondary aluminum business.

Located in a strategic position for both raw material sourcing and access to industrial customers, Fagor Recycling will specialize in the production of recycled aluminum ingots and the recovery of recyclable materials. The plant will manufacture different aluminum alloys using exclusively recycled material, primarily serving the domestic U.S. market and sectors such as automotive, construction, and consumer goods.

12,000tons/year initial production capacity
36,000tons/year planned growth capacity
20 → 60direct jobs as phases are implemented
$40M → $100M+first-year to long-term annual revenue objective

The facility will begin operations with an estimated annual production capacity of 12,000 tons, supported by a progressive growth plan that will enable it to reach 36,000 tons per year in the coming years. Likewise, the initial workforce will consist of approximately 20 employees, with plans to expand to 60 direct jobs as the different phases of growth are implemented.

In economic terms, the company expects to generate revenues of approximately $40 million during its first year of operation, with the objective of exceeding $100 million in annual revenues once the planned growth strategy has been fully implemented.

The inauguration ceremony will be attended by Mikel Uribetxebarria, President of Fagor Ederlan Group; Jon Zuazo, Chief Executive Officer of the group; and Lorne Kalisky, company partner and a recognized leader in the North American aluminum recycling industry. The event will also bring together representatives from Tioga County, the Office of the Governor of Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania State Senate, and the Blossburg Borough Council, as well as future plant employees, their families, and members of the local community.

A complementary solution for an increasingly circular market

Fagor Recycling and Fagor Regen Aluminum will form a specialized industrial ecosystem focused on recycled aluminum, enabling both companies to offer a broader and more competitive value proposition to their customers. The investment comes at a particularly favorable time for the industry, where the circular economy is already a reality: approximately 85% of the aluminum produced in the United States comes from recycled sources, driven by the competitive and environmental advantages of a material that can be recycled indefinitely without losing its properties.

The proximity of both facilities will facilitate logistics optimization, access to different sources of industrial scrap and recyclable materials, and the development of a complementary portfolio of alloys and production capabilities. In addition, both companies will share commercial relationships and technical expertise to meet the growing demand for sustainable materials. In an environment where industrial competitiveness increasingly depends on energy efficiency, recycled aluminum offers a strategic advantage, requiring up to 95% less energy than primary aluminum production.

This new phase will enable Fagor Ederlan to increase its local production capacity in the United States, expand its alloy portfolio, and strengthen its position in the aluminum recycling and refining sector. The investment also responds to the needs of a market that continues to face a structural deficit and covers nearly 60% of its demand through imports, while industries such as automotive are driving the adoption of recycled aluminum to reduce emissions and improve material traceability. Through this initiative, Fagor Ederlan reinforces its commitment to a more sustainable, efficient, and competitive industrial future in North America.

“The incorporation of Fagor Regen Aluminum opened the door to a strategic sector for our future. Today, with the launch of Fagor Recycling, we are taking another step forward in our commitment to recycled aluminum, a key material for industrial decarbonization that requires up to 95% less energy than primary aluminum production. In doing so, we strengthen our ability to offer local, sustainable, and competitive solutions to our customers in North America. This investment reflects our determination to continue growing alongside our partners, our people, and the communities where we operate.”
